Who Is Sisters United For Christ?

Six women – Lura Hammons, Diane Harvell, Jennifer Harvell, Julie Jackson, Vinita Taylor and Janice Whitt were challenged and encouraged by their pastor, Rev. Rudolph S. Shoultz, to organize a women’s retreat in Springfield, Illinois.

On June 30, 1997, this group of women met the challenge, formed Sisters United for Christ Board of Directors, planned and offered the first retreat – “Getting in Shape for God’s Service” on March 27-28, 1998. The first keynote speakers were Rev. Dr. Leticia Rouser of Lexington, Kentucky and Dr. Lillie M. White-Shaffer of Chicago, Illinois.  The retreat attendance growth necessitated the addition of six members – Willa Barger, Beverly Gibson, Jeanette Goza, Emma Lewis, Dietra McJunkins and Jackie Newman to the Sisters United for Christ Board of Directors.

Sisters United for Christ are Christian women prayerfully guided by the Holy Spirit agreeing to faithfully promote the benefits of a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Our purpose is to proclaim through biblical teaching and principles how Jesus Christ meets the needs of the whole woman – mind, body and soul.

The annual retreats provide workshops, walking ministry, praise dance ministry, choir ministry, celebration of life ministry for cancer survivors, prayer ministry, scholarship ministry, God-directed speakers and the opportunity to worship and praise God with women from several states.
